Indian smartphone market will become world’s second largest smartphone market by 2017. Various smartphone companies sold around 100 million devices during the year 2015. China, India and the US are the three big countries driving smartphone growth worldwide. World sees India as the next wave for smartphone growth.
Micromax attained the top spot in smartphone selling, dethroning Samsung to second. Micromax had 22% share of the total smartphone market in India, ahead of Samsung’s 20%. Lenovo-Motorola attains third spot in Indian smartphone market. Many other multinational companies are competing to find a spot with new technologies and affordable price tags.
IDC expects the share of smartphones to outstrip the share of feature phones market in CY 2016 for India. Low prices and better value would continue to drive migration in the coming years. Also smartphones will continue to maintain a healthy double-digit growth over the next few years.
Chinese electronics firm LeTv, which recently changed its name to LeEco, has entered the Indian market with three flagship smartphones – Le Max, Le 1s and Le MaxSapphire. Huawei Technologies, among the world’s largest telecom equipment manufacturer, will continue to concentrate mostly on the smartphone segment in India. Over the years, Apple’s interest in the Indian smartphone market has increased. The large untapped user base in India and China provides Apple with plenty of opportunity for growth.
